Chai is robust and deeply satisfying and is often as popular with coffee drinkers as those who prefer tea. Chai is a great way to start your day and makes a delightful afternoon pick-me-up with its soothing fragrance and flavor.
Malabar Trading Company's loose tea and spice blends allow you to brew chai the way you like it — mild, spicy, strong, mellow, sweet, or unsweetened. You can use whole milk or other non-dairy beverage, and sweetener of your choice — honey, sugar, agave or sugar substitute. Traditional chai served abroad is generally much sweeter than American tastes and we feel strongly about providing an option. We encourage you to experiment and adjust sweetness and brewing times to your personal taste.

Our most popular chai and winner at the North American Tea Championship 2011, Kashmiri Chai is a heady blend of aromatic spices featuring cardamom with a hint of cinnamon and pepper and is blended with a rich, malty black Assam made especially for chai. We steep Kashmiri Chai spices slowly in whole milk and makes a smooth, rich cup of chai.
Our signature chai spice blend, Malabar Chai is a traditional Indian 'masala' blend of ginger root, cardamom pods, cinnamon bark, cloves, and nutmeg with Assam tea. Malabar Chai brews a robust, spicy cup of chai with deep, rich flavor. Malabar Chai is brewed using a combination of half milk and half water in the traditional manner, but feel free to use all milk for a richer flavor.
Cape Town Chai
For this no-caffeine version of chai, we use our signature ginger-cardamom Malabar Chai spices and blend them with a creamy, vanilla scented South African rooibos. Cape Town Chai spice blend produces a relaxing cup of chai with deep, rich flavor that can be enjoyed any time of day. It is also delicious chilled, over ice.
Spicy Chocolate Chai
For chocolate lovers! Antioxidant-rich raw cacao nibs and dark bittersweet chocolate chips are added to our ginger-cardamom Malabar Chai spice blend with a chocolate scented South African rooibos and brews a flavorful, indulgent cup of chai without caffeine.
Golden Milk Chai
Golden Milk Chai is a caffeine-free, turmeric based spice blend with an earthy, slightly savory flavor along with an aromatic blend of ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, licorice root, fennel seed, and black pepper. Key ingredients are loaded with antioxidants and may help reduce inflammation. It is delicious as a 'tea' made with just water or can be brewed with milk like chai.
Make Real Chai, Your Way
All of our blends allow you to tailor chai the way YOU like it. You can adjust the strength either by adding more or less spice, add steeping time to make a stronger infusion, and use the milk or 'milque' of your choice. Sweeten to taste is up to YOUR personal taste. To create a creamier, lighter chai, use a handheld milk frothing wand. (These frothers are also the secret for making great lattes at home!)
